Okay. This edari thing has gone a lot forward. We (as in all the numerous candidates from the same list and from two -shortly one- faculties) have had the photo session for the campaign poster. Now we're supposed to come up with a slogan!

I was thinking about something very humanist, a literary quote. Walt Whitman, maybe? That would be in English, nicely odd but yet understandable, creating an image of a very intelligent person (provided people would google the phrase) and I also like the self-irony aspect of the phrase. Have to remember to ask about the character limit for the slogans, in case the phrase needs condensation. Okay, what else... one of Dexter's one-liners, perhaps. Richard Dawkins? Carl Sagan? Toni Morrison would be nice but I can't recall anything non-specific at the moment. Have to remember to look into it.

The Loesje text ("Humanisti... Tarvitaanko niitä Nokialla?") would be really interesting but it's in Finnish..!

Movie lines?!

Any suggestions?

Whatman? Surely you choose a female voice -?!

(For some reason I remember being amazed by some quotes of Maggie Tatcher at some point, but maybe not her...)

You're gonna get there I think. Hail Splenetic!

Not Thatcher, no! But I don't really do poetry so I only know THE famous ones (and, as we all know, THEY are always men) and their best known lines. Prose is more my thing but the quotes way too long. I was thinking of a line from 'Song of Myself': "Do I contradict myself? Well, I am large, I contain multitudes." (A bit modified for legth's sake, though.)

Hmmm... Virginie Despentes, maybe? Some quote filled with provocative language. Or maybe my new tattoo line would be it... not that it has anything to do with university politics, of course, but more so with feminism: "Ni putes, ni soumises!" (And I still haven't harassed the French department to get the singular form of that phrase.. and a short linguistic analysis, too.)

And even though I must admire your optimism, you do realise that on the list before me there are the boards of TWO different student societies (which is apparently the English equivalent for "ainejärjestö")? Plus, I'm not taking this anywhere near as seriously as some other candidates (posters in the hallway, gatherings, political statements... one is planning to promote to disband the whole student union!). I wonder where they get their funding from...? ;) The students that are candidates in the political party lists... do they get funding from the party and thus the not-so-clean money...?

Vappu Rossi & co.: what Rokkihomo called one of the best lines in lyrics ever! Should attract attention but what if some yahoo takes it seriously, as some kind of a dating ad?

Rossi lyrics might be worth checking out, but I wouldn't recommend That Line, as you are bound to get offers...

Walt Whitman it is. Not a female voice but he was gay so he get's a free pass from my androgynistic views.
