You don't have to say iceskating or icehockey, just skating and hockey. Any damn fool knows that. Done on ice . I quess in europe they say so.

Well, technically there is already another sport named hockey...so there is a fleeting chance of confusion.
Lepidopteras? Really?
And I loved those "Detective's Handbook" etc. as a kid.

According to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary words 'skating' and 'ice skating' are both used. I used 'ice skating' because, as the omniscient Oxford enlightens us, 'skating' can also refer to roller skating as well as skateboarding. And since the context does not clarify the matter, I used the exact, unambiguous verb. But thank you for pointing out the aspects of the multifaceted word 'skate'. I guess we are prone to use the exact form here in Europe.
And, millikan; yes, really. If I had to choose whether to swim with hungry piranhas or to stick my hand in a box filled with those fluttering beasts of doom, I would actually have to think.
Did you know there is a butterfly called Wanderer. I have to admit it is quite beautiful creature, though I prefer the picture over the real deal any day.
