YK:n tuki Yogyarta-periaatteille
Human Right Watch kertoo, että New Yorkissa on tänään tapahtuma yogyakarta-periaatteiden tiimoilta. Tilaisuutta sponsaavat mm. Argentiina, Brasilia ja Uruguai.
Yogyarta-periaatteet määrittelevät ihmisoikeudet laajasti niin, että ne kuuluvat myös LHBT-ihmisille. Periaatteet koottiin, kun maailmalta tuli jatkuvasti tietoa homojen ja lesbojen ihmisoikeusloukkauksista, mm. kidutuksista, teloituksista, lääketieteen väärinkäytöstä, kokoontumisoikeuden rajoituksista, jne. Nyt Latinalaisen Amerikan maat ovat ilmaisseet selkeästi tukensa LHBT-ihmisoikeuksille.
Human Right Watvh on kehottanut YK-maita tukemaan näitä uusia periaatteita. Homoseksuaalisuus on kiellettyä edelleen 77 maassa. Entinen YK:n ihmisoikeuskomissaari Mary Robinson järjestää YK:n istunnon rinnalla tapahtuman näistä periaatteista. Foorumissa on mukana kansalaisjärjestöjä.

THE YOGYAKARTA PRINCIPLES
Periaatteilla selvennetään, miten kansainvälistä ihmisoikeuslainsäädäntöä sovelletaan suhteessa seksuuaaliseen suutautumiseen ja sukupuoli-identiteettiin. Tässä periaatteet vapaasti suomennettuna:
