EU-parlamentti: komission on tutkittava Liettuan sensuurilaki

Lietuvos Rytas -lehti kertoo, että Europarlamentti kääntyy Euroopan komission puoleen ja vaatii sitä tutkimaan Liettuan sensuurilaki. Komission kannanotot ovat odotettavissa syyskuussa. Selvitettävänä on mm. se, eikä nuoria voida suojella muilla tavoin, jotta vältetään "sensuurilain" kielteiset vaikutukset. Europarlamentin vihreät olivat eilen aloitteellisia tässä Liettua-asiassa.
Liettuan presidentti Dalia Grybauskaite snaoi eilen. Ruotsin-vierailullaan, että on skandaali, että nuoria suojellaan tällaisella negatiivisella informaatiolailla. Lailla on tarkoituksena suojella nuoria gay-asioilta. Presidentti snaoi, että hänellä on oikeus vaatia lakiin korjauksia.

Liettualaisen Lietuvos Rytas-lehden etusivulla kerrotaan, että hollantilaismeppi Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert vaatii Euroopan komissiota ja Euroopan unionia ryhtymään toimiiin Liettuaa vastaan. "Keskiaika on ohi, laki on kumottava". Toinen hollantilaismeppi Sophie in't Veld vaatii myös, että komission ja ihmsioikeustuomioistuimen on nyt toimittava. EU-maiden on tulevaisuudessa kunnioitettava syrjinnän vastaisia lakeja. Komissio taistelee esim. kartelleja vastaan, mutta vaikenee homofobisista laeista.

LRytas-lehden mukaan Liettuan uusi presidentti on vaikeassa asemassa. Hänellä on kolme päivää aikaa allekirjoittaa uusi laki (se on pakko!). Kuitenkin presidentti aikaisemmin on lausunut, että hän ei koskaan allekirjoita ihmisoikeuksia rikkovia lakeja. Edeleen hän on sitä mieltä, että lapsia ja nuoria ei saa suojella muita syrjivillä laeilla.
Eilen LRytas kertoi, että liberaalipuolue aikoo viedä lain perustuslakituomioistuimeen. Liettuassa perustuslakituomioistuin toimii hieman eri tavoin kuin monissa muissa maissa, joten on vielä auki se, miten tässä tilanteessa olisi toimittava.

"MEPs urge newly-elected European Parliament President to take action after the adoption of homophobic law in Lithuania."
The European Parliament's Intergroup on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights welcomed the election of the institution's new president by urging him to condemn the adoption of a homophobic law in Lithuania.
Today, the Lithuanian Parliament rejected the President's veto and confirmed that the law on the Protection of Minors against the Detrimental Effect of Public Information will enter into force in March 2010. According to the law, "propaganda of homosexuality and bisexuality is banned from schools and any other places where it can be accessed by youth".
The LGBT Intergroup, in a letter sent today, asks Jerzy Buzek, as one of his first commitment as President of the European Parliament, to write to the Lithuanian Government to express concern that this new law could be prejudicial to understanding and tolerance of homosexuals as well as moving contrary to Article 6 of the EU Treaty. Paragraph 1 of this article states that "The Union is founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law, principles which are common to the Member States."
"This new law contradicts the values of the European Union where minority rights are and should remain respected. It is the duty of the President of the European Parliament to ensure that all minorities are treated equally", said Michael Cashman, President of the Intergroup.
