Amnestyn Suomen osasto ja Seta järjestävät perjantaina 20.9. klo 18–20 Amnestyn toimistolla (Hietaniemenkatu 7 A, esteetön sisäänkäynti, hissillä suoraan 3. krs) kaikille avoimen iltatapaamisen, jossa kuulemme keskeisten ugandalaisten ihmisoikeusaktivistien kokemuksista hlbti-toiminnasta ja -vaikuttamisesta Ugandassa ja muualla Afrikassa.
Tapaamisessa puhuvat ugandalaiset aktivistit Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera ja Hassan Shire Sheikh. Ugandalainen Kasha on työskennellyt kymmenen vuotta Freedom and Roam Uganda -järjestössä. Hän on saanut useita merkittäviä kansainvälisiä huomionosoituksia työstään seksuaali- ja sukupuolivähemmistöjen ihmisoikeuksien hyväksi. Somalialais-kanadalainen Hassan on toiminut vuodesta 2005 Itä-Afrikan ja Afrikan sarven ihmisoikeuspuolustajien verkoston puheenjohtajana ja on East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EHAHRDP) -hankkeen perustaja. Hänellä on pitkäaikainen kokemus ihmisoikeustyöstä ja -tutkimuksesta Afrikkaan liittyen.

Welcome to discuss with Ugandan lgbti human rights activists Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera & Hassan Shire Sheikh on Friday evening 20.9. 6pm at Amnesty office (Hietaniemenkatu 7 A, wheelchair accessible, 3rd floor). The event is organized by Amnesty and Seta and it’s open for all.
Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera & Hassan Shire Sheikh have been fighting for the rights of lgbti people, especially in Uganda, but also elsewhere in Africa for years. Kasha has worked with Freedom and Roam Uganda, a prominent NGO working for the rights of LBTI women, for the last 10 years. She has been awarded with several international prizes for her continuous acvitism, among others the The Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders, which is often considered as the Nobel Price for human rights and is chosen by a jury of ten leading international human rights organizations. Hassan Shire Sheikh is a Somali-Canadian Pan-African human rights defender. In 2005 he founded the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project became the elected Chairperson of the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network (EHAHRDN) and currently serves his second term (2011-2016). The East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EHAHRDP) is an organisation based in Africa with the mandate of protection and promotion of the work of Human Rights Defenders in the East and Horn of Africa sub-region.
