Perhaps I should have taken the Finnish translation... the English in this novel is very heavy to read. As the novel to provide counterbalance I'm also reading 'Hard Times' by Charles Dickens at the moment, again. I think I'm getting a better hold of the story this time.

Ah, I have read one Saramago book once and his writing style was such that I wouldn't try to read him in English...

I am beginning to come to the conclusion that *perhaps* I should have taken the Yellow Library edition in Finnish... but I'm one thirds through with the English translation. I'm planning to make it to the end!
