And to add a little more pressure on the thesis pressure (since, obviously, there wasn't enough already) was to hear a comment a friend's thesis instructor to their group: "don't think any of you will get a higher grade than magna". Veeeery encouraging, indeed. =/

Indeed, motivation at its best! If someone said that to me, I'd report the instructor to University administration.
And snow has been promised to cover the streets of Turku in the few next days. I couldn't wait anything less than snow :( It'll only turn into watery slush and ruin my shoes :P

I'll suggest the friend taking some action since she's the one who actually heard it from word to word. I suppose there really aren't many feasible contexts in which the comment would be excusable. I would *love* to know what the instructor got out of his Master's Thesis. Was it laudatur, or was he expecting a laudatur but only got an M and he's still pissed off because of that? Or he's just downright mean, which in my experience is not out of the realm of possibilities.
And it's so nice and white outside now! Ruins your shoes... do as I do, use practical shoes made for this kind of weather! No need to wear Manolo Blahnik's (yes, I checked how it's written...) in Finland, especially in winter.
